Summerlin is an award-winning Master-Planned development in Clark County, Nevada and offers a living experience unique in the world. Summerlin occupies 22,500 acres of the Mojave Desert and is situated in the doorway of the Red Rock National Conservation Area. It is 18 miles from the Las Vegas Strip, and features convenience to shopping, golfing, dining and other recreation and cultural amenities.

The area was originally purchased by Howard Hughes in the 1950s, through a number of land exchanges with the BLM in order to protect sensitive sites. It has become a haven of natural environment-friendly living adjoining buffer-zone land protecting Red Rock Canyon in the National Stewardship program.

These exchanges resulted in the creation of a 1,200-acre Clark County trails park, including a 13-mile scenic drive, miles of hiking trails, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking, road biking, picnic areas, nature observing and visitor center in and around Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, available for residents and public alike.

The highly sought-after Summerlin master planned community is within the city of Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County. It is the largest master-planned community in the Las Vegas Valley, ranked #6 nationally, and in 2014 was named by Money magazine as one of America’s “Best Places to Live”.

The Summerlin community contains residential, commercial, recreational, educational, medical, and cultural developments, as well as open areas including hiking and biking trails. Since the 1980s the community has been carefully developed and currently contains a dozen-plus medical and cultural facilities, houses of worship, shopping centers and business parks; it has 26 public and private schools, ready access to 5 universities; it also has 9 golf courses, two of which are Nevada’s only Tournament Players Clubs. It has three resort hotels and world-class recreational facilities. The population is currently approximately 100,000, up from 59,000 in 2000.

The development of the Summerlin community is on-going with nineteen of thirty-one planned community areas either completed or near completion, and is divided into three areas, North, South and West, surrounding Summerlin Centre, the core urban and downtown area. Each division is managed by Master Associations and Homeowners’ associations. It also contains two age-restricted communities, Sun City and Sienna, which have their own associations. It offers fine and varied architectural styles in condos, townhomes and luxury homes.

Summerlin contains 150 miles of award winning trails connecting all the subdivisions of the development, as well as 150 neighborhood parks with community centers, swimming pools and cultural areas. Life in Summerlin embodies high desert living at its best, and imparts the feeling of perpetual vacation in one of the country’s most beautiful environmentally friendly locations. Summerlin is definitely a world unto itself, but with convenient access to all that Las Vegas has to offer.
